Korea Housing Association Holds 'Major Changes to the 2026 Revised Construction Appraisal Practices'
Mr. Han Sang-min, an attorney at Hanbyol Law LLC, presented the practical response to the change of the waterproofing layer thickness standard in the 2026 revision of the Construction Appraisal Practice at a briefing session of the Korea Housing Association. Pointing out that the revised standard could directly affect the court's judgment of defects and appraisal results, Mr. Han emphasized the need to overhaul the proof and measurement methods and construction standards related to waterproofing layer thickness.
Specifically, the lawyer recommended reflecting the standards in site specifications, contracts, and design drawings, strengthening inspection records and material specifications, standardizing measurement and verification procedures during appraisals, and supplementing the basis for calculating repair costs. He also presented practical measures to strengthen members' ability to respond to litigation, such as preliminary site inspections, maintaining records of temporary repairs, and establishing strategies for responding to appraisals.
