I thought it was an abandoned bike...Momentary mistake sends middle schooler between courts, 'ex-con'...

In this case, a middle school student who briefly rode an unlocked bicycle was classified as a juvenile delinquent and was subjected to a juvenile protection trial in a family court instead of criminal punishment. Juvenile protection trials are aimed at protection and education, not punishment, but even if the outcome is not a criminal record, a record of the juvenile protection case remains and can be used for future disposition.

Kim Jeon-soo, a lawyer at Hanbyul Law Firm, recommended settling with the victim first, emphasizing that the agreement and measures to prevent recurrence should be submitted to the family court. He explained that damage restoration and settlement are substantial factors in reducing the level of protective measures, and advised that the lack of intentionality, genuine remorse, and appointment of a lawyer, if necessary, can positively influence the judge's judgment by showing the guardian's protective will and management ability. He also advised that prompt restitution and expert counseling can help minimize the penalties of the case.
